Bug List
- People who take their shoes off in public spaces.
Why: I see this happen in Lib West pretty often. People are just trying to get comfortable while they are studying.
- Convenience fees when buying concert tickets.
Why: Whoever is processing the fee needs to make a profit as well.
- Binge-watching a Netflix show and finding out the next season comes out the following year.
Why: This happened to me when I was watching the first season of ‘You’. There are many reasons as to why this happens. For example, shows might need more time to prepare for more ambitious production.
- When my roommates forget to lock the main front door when they leave our apartment.
Why: This usually happens because they are in a rush to get out of the house. However, it’s a little concerning because anyone could just walk in. Thankfully, we have locks on our bedrooms doors.
- People who listen to music with their headphones so loud that other people can hear it.
Why: I think people just don’t pay attention to the sound level in spaces they step in to. Also, it’s hard to tell how much of your music is leaking through your headphones.
- Tripping on uneven sidewalks. I’ve tripped several times on this one part of the sidewalk right outside of Lib West.
Why: The uneven sidewalk could result from changes in the environment. It is probably an issue that hasn’t been brought to the school’s attention.
- People that leave dishes on their tables at Panera.
Why: People probably forget to walk it over or are unaware of the dish pit by the trashes.
- I have to walk to my leasing office to get a package but I live towards the back on my apartment complex so it’s pretty inconvenient.
Why: My complex does this so packages aren’t stolen or misplaced.
- This is a personal one but being in public with wet hair.
Why: I have curly hair so wet hair and humidity never result in a good hair day for me.
- The internet connection at Lib West.
Why: The wifi isn’t strong enough for all the students using the internet of their phones, laptop, tablets, etc.
- Accidently ripping out my headphones out of my ears.
Why: The wire on my headphones usually gets caught on something. Also, I refuse to buy wireless headphones for some reason.
- People who drag their feet when they walk.
Why: People are probably tired of walking around and don’t notice that they’re doing this.
- Stickers on fruit and vegetables.
Why: The sticker lets cashiers know what the product is and how much it costs.
- Washing dishes at work and my shoes get soaked.
Why: Water tends to get on my apron and drip down to the top of my shoes.
- The lingering scent of food on my hands.
Why: The smell of foods like fresh garlic and onion are difficult to get off hands.
- My roommates forgetting to refill the Brita water pitcher.
Why: My roommates probably forget to do it after getting water.
- When a group of people takes up the whole sidewalk.
Why: People are unaware of other people trying to get past them since they are concentrated on their friends. Also, the sidewalk might just be narrow.
- People who slam shut cabinet doors.
Why: My family has a bad habit of doing this. They don’t notice how much force they are using to close the cabinets.
- People who try to talk to me when I have my headphones on.
Why: People don’t notice that its modern etiquette. Having headphones usually means that a person doesn’t want to be spoken to.
- People who leave carts in parking spaces at the Target on Archer.
Why: The carts could have rolled out of their spot on the curb. Also, this Target is huge so there might not be enough of those spots for carts only.
Reflection:
I'm not too critical of occurrences in my day to day life. Hence, why coming up with 20 bugs was quite difficult for me. Honestly, I feel sort of ridiculous writing some of these because I kept seeing them as first world problems. However, this assignment allowed to see my daily inconveniences from a different perceptive. The more I thought about them, the closer I was getting to a solution for them.
Hey Isabella! I also had difficulty coming up with 20 “bugs” for this assignment. But, what I was more surprised about was that I had more trouble writing about why the bugs exist. I had a similar experience as I am not overly critical about things that bother me in my daily life. Overall, I enjoyed reading your bug list, and I look forward to seeing more of your posts this semester!

ReplyDeleteHello Isabella! I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I completely understand how difficult it was to find 20 "bugs" for this assignment. Writing down these bugs throughout the day made this process much easier. I struggled finding the root cause of a lot these bugs due to the amount of detail some came about. I completely agree with you in your reflection on the bug list. I felt ridiculous writing a lot of them down as well. Great post all together.
