21A – Reading Reflection No. 2
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The book that I decided to read for this reading reflection is The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users by Guy Kawasaki. The general theme or argument of the book gives some insight into how one should treat their social media as a business.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
I believe this book connected and enhanced what we've learned in ENT3003 since social media can be used when promoting a new business. More specifically, I've used social media to my advantage when growing my social capital. Many of the connections I've made from that assignment was done on LinkedIn, which is a social media platform.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would design an exercise that enforces students to go out and speak to businesses within their industry and ask them about how social media has affected their business. Students could ask for the social media they utilize the most, how they use it and why. It would give students some real insight into using social media as a business.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
Honestly, I wasn't quite surprised by the material presented in the book. The information that was shared throughout the book was all extremely relevant and straightforward. However, there was some information that differed from my expectations. I wasn't fully aware of letting different accounts talk to each other as a way of cross-promotion. Before reading this book, I didn't understand the value of driving your audience from one platform to the other.

You made an excellent point when you said that social media is valuable in growing a person’s social capital. As a public relations major, I agree that LinkedIn is a useful social media platform for expanding a person’s professional network. Overall, great job!

In the world we live in today, social media is key to a business. I know that I usually turn to social media if I want to go to a new restaurant, coffee shop or explore a new product. Growing your social media can only help your business and improve customer relations. Great job on this assignment!
